Senior GNSS / Map Matching Developer

Potsdam (hybrid)
Full-time
Permanent employee

About the position

At Ambrosys, we build data-driven systems for complex mobility and urban infrastructure challenges (B2B/B2G), including traffic insights, geolocation, tolling, and smart city solutions.

In this role, you’ll design and evolve map matching systems that transform noisy positioning data into reliable trajectories at scale, balancing algorithmic accuracy with operational robustness. You’ll work on large-scale real-world data problems together with engineers and domain experts in a low-bureaucracy, highly collaborative environment.

We seek engineers capable of integrating advanced algorithmic concepts with robust operational systems, combining deep algorithmic understanding, domain-specific modeling, and strong software engineering practices.

What you will do
  • Design, implement, and operate map matching systems for real-time and batch processing across complex mobility environments
  • Own matching services and algorithms, including accuracy, robustness, scalability, and operational reliability under real-world positioning conditions
  • Translate mobility and geolocation domain challenges into pragmatic map matching solutions using road networks, routing graphs, spatial data, and approaches informed by scientific literature and empirical system behavior
  • Contribute to engineering practices including testing, observability, code reviews, incident learnings, and delivery

Your profile

What you bring
  • Experience building and operating map matching or geolocation systems in real-world environments (typically 4–6+ years)
  • Strong software engineering skills in C++ and/or Java
  • Strong understanding of GNSS, positioning uncertainty, trajectory data, and noisy real-world sensor inputs
  • Experience with graph-based systems, routing, spatial algorithms, and road network modeling
  • Ability to translate complex mobility and geolocation domain problems into robust algorithmic and software solutions, including adapting approaches from scientific literature
  • Solid approach to testing, observability, code quality, and maintainability
  • Comfortable working in cross-functional teams with engineers and stakeholders
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts and trade-offs clearly in English and German
Nice to have
  • Experience using AI-assisted engineering tools
  • Experience with probabilistic approaches (e.g. HMM-based matching)
  • Familiarity with OpenStreetMap or routing engines
  • Experience with real-time or large-scale data processing
  • Mobility, traffic, or telematics domain experience
